European Parliament Condemns Forced Abortion and Gendercide in China

BOSTON—All Girls Allowed welcomes the news that the European Parliament has openly condemned forced abortion and gendercide in China.

“The European Parliament…condemns the practice of forced abortions and sterilizations globally, especially in the context of the one‑child policy,” said the final joint resolution.

The resolution also noted the role of the policy in China’s ongoing gendercide: “as a result of China’s one-child policy, illegal sex-selective abortions are widespread, creating an imbalance between the numbers of men and women.” There are now 37 million more men than women in China, and the gap continues to grow.

The parliamentary resolution was inspired by the recent headlines about Feng Jianmei, who was seven months pregnant when she suffered a forced abortion in Shaanxi Province last month. Her story ignited in the media and renewed calls for China to end its one-child policy. The resolution highlighted the significance of that debate and called for the European Commission to raise the issue of forced abortion in bilateral talks with China.

“Today, the European Parliament stood boldly for women and girls in China,” said Chai Ling, founder of All Girls Allowed. “I hope and pray that the U.S. Congress and the Obama Administration will follow suit. They can play a role in ensuring that no other woman has to suffer a forced abortion.”

Recently, Ling received a call from another Chinese woman who wanted to hasten the end of the policy by sharing her experience of forced abortion. Zhang Wen Fang said that officials had aborted her baby and then removed her uterus. She explained why she had stepped forward: “I would like to ensure that no more families ever have to go through what I have been through, to be butchered like this.”

“The day is coming when China will no longer lose its infant girls and brutalize its mothers because of a policy that harms the nation,” said Ling. “It’s time for the one-child policy to end.”

All Girls Allowed (http://www.allgirlsallowed.org) was founded by Chai Ling in 2010 with a mission to display the love of Jesus by restoring life, value and dignity to girls and mothers in China and to reveal the injustice of the One-Child Policy.  “In Jesus’ Name, Simply Love Her.”
